City and Colour – Little Hell

Hey! Dallas! You dropped the acoustic for the ’52 Telecaster, eh? Good work. Kind of.

K, so I don’t hate it. But City and Colour used to be so freakin’ raw that it was unbearable. Dallas’ voice is so pure that its difficult to think of anyone that can hold what he can hold.

Comparatively, this CD doesn’t come close to the old stuff. Putting it out there alone, it does hold its own. Its good for what it is and what it has. It was his first time as a front man and not a lone-soul with the perfect tuning and complementary voice. Keep making music Dallas, Ill definitely keep buying it.

Life on Repeat – Sleep + Struggle

This album rings with all the old stuff you dug as a kid, but kicks you in the face with mature elements of musicality. When you dig deep into this album, you realize that the band rings with old punk rock influences and new age sweeping hooks.

One of my favorite things about this band is their ability to kick your ass in one song, then melt you the next. Then they’ll follow that up with something emo, light you up with a scream, rock you with some double bass pedals, and then thank you for listening with a post-hardcore-studio-created breakdown.

All in all, its great album, but you find yourself floating into the realm of finding and sticking to your favorite songs of the cd. They show a lot of elements of a great band, but lack the resonance and ferocity that is needed to keep a listener on the edge. Cheers, my favorite songs are great, and thats it.

Active Child – You Are All I See

Gorgeous, Gorgeous.

This is simply a good trip. This cd resonates with beauty, passion, and all the above. You can really tell that the singer came up in a singing environment. A little behind the scenes action, the guy grew up as a choir boy. You can really tell, and feel, that type of atmosphere.

The whole cd gets you going with odd feelings. It hits you in a quiet place, but blasts you into bouts of you singing in a falsetto. There is something incredibly interpersonal about the cyclical and emotional behavior of his music. It sounds like passion, or perhaps a creative spark that we all think we have, but he found and produced.
